You know that spark you see in someone’s eye when they start talking about something they love? That’s Howard Olinsky when you ask him about fitness. Before you assume that he was your typical athlete whose life revolved around keeping active, he’ll be the first to tell you that he wasn’t always this way.

“I was about 50 pounds heavier before. I’m in my mid-50’s and I’m in the best shape of my life. And I’m still on a quest to get myself in even better shape,” says Howard.

His relatability and frankness is part of what makes him more than just a salesman. When people come into the store to talk to Howard, they may be surprised at how easily they can chat with him.

“I can relate – the aches and the pains that come with an unhealthy lifestyle. I want [customers] to open up to me so I can get a better sense of what [they’re] looking to achieve. I don’t like to ‘sell’ to people. I just want to talk to you like a person.

One of his favorite parts of his job is being able to physically see the transformation in his repeat customers and knowing he’s played a hand in that. “When people come back to show off and tell me how happy they are – that is HUGE. I really try to earn their trust and respect. I want this place to be ‘their store,’” says Howard.

He also has decades of experience under his belt to bring to the table. His first taste of specialty fitness started in 1990 and he said he felt like a kid in a candy store. He’s never looked back since.

Howard’s love for what he does bleeds into his personal life. In fact, one of his favorite activities to do with his wife is going to the gym on Sunday mornings. “It’s funny because, in the beginning, my initial thought was that she was going to hold me back, but when we’re there – we’re there to train. She pushes me.”

If it’s there’s anything you can count on with Howard, it’s that you’ll never see him suggesting anything he wouldn’t do himself.

“If we don’t practice what we preach, how seriously can you take us? It’s never too late to start making changes for a different lifestyle.”
