Great Eliptical

I have had the Elliptical for about a month and really enjoy it, like the stride, it is nice and silent too. I am less then impressed with the console, it is a cheap touchscreen with poor viewing angles and not as many easy to find and use exercise programs. As you exercise if you watch Netflix or hulu on it the screen with appear to dim or brighten because of the cheap screen and being out of the ideal viewing angle. I think I would have been happier with the cheaper console and just using my convertible laptop if I want to watch videos.

Wife bought me this unit for Christmas. It is built like a tank and I had some high hopes for it considering the use I got out of a $300 Walmart unit in the past. But there are some frustrations. The screen is mounted way too low. I am 5'8" and in order to even consider watching a video or using the passport/virtual active feature I have to cock my head downwards in an uncomfortable manner. Then there's the computing hardware, which just doesn't have the power it needs to be browsing YouTube or any of the other apps. By the time you get a video loaded to workout to, you will be 20 minutes into your run! My wife thought that I would like the virtual active feature, and she is right, I would have. But it's not really virtual, the video goes at the same pace no matter your cadence on the machine. There were some loose claims that the Passport device that you plug into your TV would change that, but for another $219 I'm not willing to chance it- not when so little information can be found with hours worth of googling. All that said, those things are frills and lace. I primarily use the Sprint8 program that ramps up the resistance and incline eight times in a 20 minute period. Here's where I get most frustrated! The brake will stay stuck on intermittently! You will be working against a high resistance, giving it your all for 30 seconds, then it should drop back to near zero for another 90 seconds, but the brake will stay on and you find yourself slugging through an impossible swamp! Needless to say, getting off of the machine, unplugging it, and waiting for it to reboot in order to try and salvage a 20 minute workout is a MAJOR ambition killer. I have owned the machine for 11 months now, and yes, the machine is under warranty. But come on! $3600 for this? We have a Lifespan treadmill (same Johnson Fitness company) that the local dealer has been unable to fix despite 2 visits now. No, I'm just frustrated. I'm sitting here in slightly sweaty shorts because the brake stuck on, again, 12 minutes into my workout today. I feel generous giving the machine 3 stars, but it is physically built bomb-proof but the finishing details are anything but refined. Respectfully GRRRRRRRR.
